How long have you been riding a motorcycle?
Riding my own on and off for almost twenty years.
How did you learn to ride?
Mandatory rider’s safety course in Germany a.k.a. endless hours of torture.
What was your first motorcycle?
Yamaha Virago 250
How many have you owned?
Eleven of all kinds
Why did you want to ride a motorcycle?
If my brother can do it, I can do it, too. And I always liked to travel light.
Tell us about your riding.
Year-round commuting on a Vespa and pleasure riding a Harley.
What advice do you have for women who ride or want to ride a motorcycle?
Let nobody talk you into ‘the best bike for you.
What is the longest trip that you’ve taken on your cycle?
I have been on many trips all over Europe, Western Canada, and Northwest USA, the longest being roughly 2,500 miles.
Do you belong to any motorcycle groups?
I belong to a local female riding club called Free Wheelin’.
Do you have a favorite riding story?
My biggest success was coaxing my husband into riding. First I had attempted to start him out on a maxi scooter, which I ended up driving it myself. Fortunately, he did come to terms with two wheels, and now has his first riding year under his belt, on a Vespa no less.
What do you do when you’re not riding?
I shop for a living. And I like hiking, cooking and reading.
My name is Pam and I am so glad you stopped by today to read Profile of a Female Motorcyclist Meet SonjaM! I started this blog to document my journey into motorcycling and along the way I met so many other lady riders with inspiring stories to tell I began to share theirs as well.
About the same time I started this blog I joined Twitter (@helmetorheels) and began to meet other female motorcycle riders. These ladies were so inspiring to me because I found other newbies like me to life-long experienced riders who were willing to share encouragement, tips, and their friendship. I was welcomed where I was on my journey. What an incredible community I found online to fuel my desire to ride.

Hooray. I have met and visited with SonjaM on several occasions and I have to say she is one special lady. I’ve even had the pleasure of riding with her.
She is just one of those people that your life will be richer because you have the chance to meet and chat a spell.

Yes it would be great to meet everyone. In a perfect world we’d all live close by and would get to ride together often.
