How to Reinvent Yourself – did I get your attention? Do you ever think things will never change? Well mark the calendar. One year from now you will have replaced 98% of all the atoms in your body. True Story.

Every five days your stomach lining is replaced. Your skin replaces it’s self approximately every month … your liver in six weeks … and your skeleton in three months. Now that is change!

Got your body covered. What about your mind? “Be careful what you think because your thoughts run your life” is an old Proverb I read frequently. Did you know we have about 50,000 thoughts a day and today’s thoughts are about 98% of the same as the day before. So, unless I intentionally stop and/or change my thoughts nothing is going to change.

How to Reinvent Yourself

I recently started training (way early) for The Color Run 5K that takes place in July using the C25K app. Why so early? Because I didn’t think I could do it. BUT, I put this up on the white board next to my treadmill, “Quit thinking why you can’t and start thinking why you can!” I just completed week 8 of training which consists of a five minute warm-up, jog 28 minutes then a five minute cool down. Yup. Something I’ve never EVER done in my life and I’m old (getting closer to 60 than 50). What changed? My mind.

  1. Pam, the headline DID catch my attention. I appreciate this post, so much, because I am in a place of changing my financial life for the better. I realized that I always said that I was “trying” to do something, but that putting the spin on my statements (in my mind and verbally) that I AM doing something is much more affirmative a declaration than a maybe statement. I’m so proud to hear of your progress! Keep up the great work. If your run is a fundraiser, I would love to support you in that.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! And back at you with changing your financial future!

I’ll keep you posted if I end up doing a fundraiser! It’s not a timed event, very casual, but I’ll see what I come up with!

  2. I just turned 56 and happy to be so healthy. I refuse to take it for granted and purposely take the stairs at work and avoid the elevator. I notice as you get older, your muscles will get lazy quite quickly if you don’t keep them working. I’ve always loved a challenge and don’t like it when it is inferred I cannot do something. I will work darn hard to prove them wrong.

  3. I love this post…it rings true in every way in my world.

Coming through a huge amount of adversity in the past few years I’ve come to acknowledge that attitude is everything!

As for the ol’ bod, well, I wish it would replicate a tad bit less…maybe about 40 pounds! LOL

Thought provoking post…good luck on your run too!

  4. Keep up the good work Pam. Hard to believe it has been 8 weeks already.

And because our bodies continually renew themselves – that is why we really are what we eat.

  5. Look at you go with your bad self. I’ve been eyeballing that C25K app for quite a while, but I know there won’t be any way I can run on a consistent basis out here on the road. I do plan on grabbing it when I get off the road, though. Lifting weights like I do helps, but it doesn’t do a lot for the ol’ ticker.

Congrats on your success. Keep pounding that pavement!

    1. Todd – right now I’m using a treadmill. Minnesota winters are too harsh to consider running outside. Can’t wait to hear your story when you are off the road. Wishing you all the best.

  6. The couch to 5k is an awesome program (it’s how my obsession with running began!). Great job on starting this and I look forward to tracking your progress. Todd, it’s easily adjustable to use with wonky schedules because it’s so flexible…….I started it while I was a driver 😉

    1. Gabsatrucker – thank you for the encouragement! I’m sure hitting the pavement will be a bit different than the treadmill, but I’m committed to work it out!

      P.S. Thanks for stopping by!
